Superintendent

Dr. Robert T. (Bob) Becker, Jr. joined Pulaski County Public Schools as Superintendent on July 1, 2010.  Before arriving in Pulaski, Dr. Becker served as Assistant Superintendent for Operations in Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools (WJCC).  While in WJCC he oversaw the construction and opening of four new schools.  Dr. Becker has taught high school remedial reading, middle school English and history, and has coached football and wrestling at the varsity, junior varsity, and middle school levels.

Dr. Becker received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Saginaw Valley State University in Saginaw, Michigan; a Masters Degree in Education Leadership from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan; and a Doctorate in Education Leadership from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan.  His doctoral dissertation investigated student achievement as a function of class size and pupil-teacher ratio.

An advocate for public schools, Bob comes from a family where both of his parents were public school teachers and central office administrators.  He loves the opportunity to visit classrooms and interact with students and staff, as well to see the exciting teaching and learning that is taking place in our classrooms.  He believes in providing learning experiences in as many ways as possible to actively engage students.  Dr. Becker has twice served on advisory boards for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and has served on the board of directors for the Williamsburg Community Services Coalition.

Bob and his wife Joan have four married children, Brigette Dumont, Robert T. Becker III, Brittany Jagoda, and Blake C. Becker, and six grandchildren.  Brigette & Brittany both graduated with degrees in elementary education and Brigette is currently teaching second grade. In his leisure time he enjoys reading, writing, working with stained glass, athletics, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
