Former Cougar/Lady Cougar Track and Field Athletes
The former Cougar and Lady Cougar track and field athletes listed on this site moved on to the college level. While we are sure we've missed some, we will gladly add new submissions as we are made aware of them.
Grace Boone (PCHS Class of 2018) is the most decorated athlete in Pulaski County High School history, male or female. With nine individual State Championships, Boone moved on to run for Virginia Tech for four years, then used her extra COVID year to run for the Oklahoma State Cowboys while working to earn her Masters.
Hunter Thomas (PCHS Class of 2017) left PCHS as the all-time leading rusher in football with 4,464 yards. While he initially began his college career at East Tennessee State for football, track and field eventually took him to Concord University, where he excelled.
Damon Akers (PCHS Class of 2015, was a leader at PCHS and his work ethic led him to Concord University. His senior season at Concord, he set a new school record in the 500-meter dash.
Diego Turner (PCHS Class of 2023) earned four individual State Championships during his time at PCHS, including the 2021 and 2021 indoor shot and 2022 and 23 outdoor shot titles. He was a key part of the Cougars earning the 2022 VHSL Class 4 Men's Outdoor State Championship. He also earned six Region Championships in shot and two Region Championships in discus. He set new indoor and outdoor school records in shot and discus, set a new Region 4D record in indoor and outdoor shot and outdoor discus, and broke a decades-old record for shot at the Cosmopolitan Invitational Meet in Roanoke. Earned multiple All-State and All-Region accolades. Earned All-American honors in shot at the Adidas National Indoor Meet in 2023. He is now throwing for Virginia Commonwealth University.
Kiontre Hayden (PCHS Class of 2023) helped move the PCHS Track and Field program forward during his time at the school. He was a key part in the success of the program during his four years, earning All-Region and All-State honors, along with being a two-time national qualifier. He now throws for the Virginia Wesleyan University Marlins in Virginia Beach.
Sydney Anderson (PCHS Class of 2013) set several school records for individual and relay events before moving on to run for Indiana University. She continued her winning ways there, helping the Hoosiers advance their track and field program.
Brody Fields (PCHS Class of 2018) was a football player who go into track and throwing shot put. After graduating high school, Fields went to Emory and Henry, where he was a member of the track and field program and eventually played football again.
James Guthrie (PCHS Class of 2018) earned his stripes in high school, then took his talents to Emory and Henry where he ran for the Wasps. Guthrie ran distance events, also competing on the cross country squad.
Kelsey Arnold (PCHS Class of 2021) set four school records for individual and relay events before moving on to run for Radford University. She continues to grow and improve, adding top 10 performances against current school records in several events.
Nikkie Roseberry (PCHS Class of 2008) was recognized as all-district, all-region, and all-state as a Cougar. She moved on to compete for Radford University, where she tied or broke school records several times as a Highlander.
Amber Church (PCHS Class of 2010) was a six time State Champion at PCHS, where she still holds the record for three indoor events and two outdoor events. She spent four years as a Radford University Highlander, where she was voted Big South Indoor Freshman of the Year.
Cade Compton (PCHS Class of 2020) helped pace the Cougars in the distance events through his high school years. He moved on to Virginia Military Institute, where he ran for the Keydets in many of those same distance events.
Madison Woolwine (PCHS Class of 2021) was a key part of helping the Lady Cougar track and field program begin their rebuilding phase, helping set the current school record in the 400-meter relay. Now at the University of Charleston, Madison is helping the Eagles reach new heights.
Allyson Castle (PCHS Class of 2021) earned all-region honors in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field as a Cougar. Now a member of the Christopher Newport University track and field program, Castle is working hard to help the Captains reach success.
Sabrina Hall (PCHS Class of 2008) still holds the record at PCHS for the 3,200-meter run. She moved on to run for Milligan College, where she continued to shine in the distance events.
Leslie Anderson (PCHS Class of 2005) earned individual State Championships in long jump and 400-meter race along with multiple region and district titles. Moved on to JMU where she set several school records and helped move their program in the right direction.
Donnie Tickle (PCHS Class of 1982) ran cross country under the direction of Head Coach David Wright at Pulaski County. He later ran for the Radford University Cross Country program.
