The Cougar and Lady Cougar track and field teams spent a day of their spring break in competition Thursday with a quad meet at Hidden Valley High School. Despite missing several key athletes who were out on vacation, both teams turned in solid performances.

 

““For it being our second meet of the season, I’m impressed,” Assistant Coach Hannah Alexander said. “These athletes are showing true dedication and determination. So far, we’ve seen nothing but personal bests all across the board!”

 

The Cougars finished the day in first place overall with 82 points. Hidden Valley was second with 67 points. Salem had 28 and Cave Spring ended with 20.

 

The normal cast of characters continued to shine.

 

Diego Turner easily took first place in the shot put event with a throw of 54’ 5”. He did the same in the discus throw, with a 141’ 9” effort.

 

Joel Burchett III took first place in the triple jump (40’ 3”) and 200-meter race (23.37). He also took third in the 100-meter (11.40) and long jump (19’).

 

Cole Boone took first in the 400-meter with a time of 51.69, then gave the 200-meter a try, finishing fifth at 23.83.

 

Quemaar Porter took second place in the triple jump (39’ 10”) and long jump (20’ .5”). He also earned fifth in the 100-meter (11.48) and seventh in the 200-meter (23.96).

 

Aiden Moore was second in the discus with a throw of 110’ 9”. He also took third in the shot put with a 38’ 11” effort.

 

Kiontre Hayden was second in the shot put (44’ 3”) and fifth in the discus (93’ 1”).

 

Davis Neel was second in the high jump with a 5’6” leap. He also took eighth in the 100-meter at 11.73.

 

Tanner Linkous was second in the 800-meter race at 2:22.71. He also took ninth in the 1,600-meter race at 5:22.40.

 

Carter Simmers was third in the 800-meter with a time of 2:25.63. He also took tenth in the 1,600-meter at 5:30.27.

 

Khalib Horton was third in the high jump (5’), fourth in the long jump (16’ 10.5”), 17th in the 100-meter (12.33), and 22nd in the 200-meter (25.59.).

 

Zaiden Morris was fourth in the 800-meter at 2:28.81. He also took eleventh in the 1,600-meter at 5:30.53.

 

Marcus Reed was fourth in the 200-meter race with a time of 23.73. He also took seventh in the long jump (15’ 11”) and eleventh in the 100-meter (11.85).

 

Blake Ratcliff took fourth in the shot put with a 38’ 3” throw. He also took 12th in the discus competition with a throw of 76’ 9”.

 

Sean Wines was fifth in the shot put at 38’, and eighth in the discus throw at 82’ 5”.

 

Trevor Wright was eighth in the shot put with a throw of 34’ 1”, and ninth in the discus at 80’ 3”.

 

Aden Drummonds was 10th in the discus (78’ 2”), and 14th in the shot put (29’ 4.5”). Dylan Nester was 11th in the shot (30’ 10”) and 14th in the discus (71’). Noah Hinkley was ninth in the shot put (33’) and 17th in the discus (64’ 2”). Jesse Limon was 19th in the shot (25’ 5.5”) and 19th in the discus (62’ 6”).  Duncan Umberger was 13th in the shot put (30’ 4.5”) and 24th in the discus (57’ 7”). Rohan Kaul took 25th in the discus with a throw of 51’ 10”.

 

Josh Secrist was fifth in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:36.81. He also took 19th in the 1,600-meter with a time of 5:56.79. Justus Hash was sixth in the long jump (16’ .5”), 21st in the 100-meter (12.41), and 21st in the 200-meter (25.31). Matthias Wright was sixth in the 800-meter (2:37.09) and 20th in the 1,600-meter (5:56.71).

 

Cayden Comer was eighth in the 800-meter (2:48.62) and 25th in the 1,600-meter (6:16.30). Zach Gallimore was 26th in the 100-meter at  13.29. Roshawn Hill was 31st in the 100-meter (13.47) and 42nd in the 200-meter (28.54). Trevor Gallimore was 39th in the 200-meter at 28.00.

 

The Lady Cougars finished the day in fourth place with several key athletes missing. Cave Spring took first with 65 points. Hidden Valley had 51 points. Salem had 37 points and Pulaski County had 36 points.

 

Kahlan Dishon continued to show improvement in her throws. She took first in the discus event with an 84’ 11” throw. She also took first in the shot put with a 28’ 8” effort.

 

Shai-Anne Lyman was first in the triple jump (31’ 6”), second in the long jump (14’ 10.5”), fourth in the 100-meter (13.54), and 13th in the 200-meter (30.20).

 

Kendra Trail was second in the shot put with a 27’ 6.5” throw, and seventh in the discus at 52’ 10”.

 

Margie Lyman took second in the triple jump with a 30’ 1” leap. She was also third in the long jump (14’ 2”), eighth in the 200-meter (29.40), and 11th in the 100-meter (15.19).

 

Jaelyn Robertson finished fifth in the long jump (13’), 13th in the 100-meter (15.26), and 14th in the 200-meter (30.73).

 

Isabel Weigel was sixth in the 400-meter (1:19.07) and 19th in the 200-meter (33.88). Abrionna Hill was 18th in the 200-meter (32.34), and 19th in the 100-meter (15.97). Kianna Comer was 15th in the 100-meter (15.48) and 17th in the 200-meter (32.32). Onna Sanchez was 21st in the 100-meter (16.23) and 24th in the 200-meter (37.09).

 

“I’m proud of their effort and I’m excited to see all of their hard work continue pay off going forward throughout the season,” Assistant Coach Hunter Thomas said.
