The Cougar baseball team worked hard in the later inning to earn a comeback, but couldn’t quite pull it out as they fell to the Cave Spring Knights Monday 2-4.

 

The Knights got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with one run, then expanded that lead with two more runs in the bottom of the third.

 

The Cougars put their first run of the night on the board in the top of the fourth inning. Gabe Huff reached first on an error by the center fielder. Cole Albert hit a shot to right field, but another error allowed him to reach first. With runners on first and second and one out on the board, Blaine Reedy sent a shot to left field that scored Albert. The Cougars were in position to add more runs, but the inning ended on a grounder to first base.

 

The Cougars struck again in the top of the fifth inning. Jacob Bourne started things off with a single, then with two outs on the board Huff earned a walk. Cole Albert hit a shot to right field that scored Bourne, moving the score to 3-2 before the inning ended.

 

The Knights added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Neither team was able to produce runs after that, leaving the final 4-2 in favor of the Knights.

 

Reedy led the Cougars with two hits and an RBI. Huff added a hit and a walk. Albert had a hit, a run and an RBI. Nick Golden, Noah long, and Bourne added one hit each.

 

Golden went the first 5.1 innings for the Cougars on the pitching mound. He gave up five hits, four runs (one earned), and two walks while striking out two batters. Hutton came in for the final two batters, giving up no hits and no runs.

 

The Cougars move to 4-7 on the season with the loss and will travel to Floyd County Wednesday to take on the Buffalos. Thursday the Cougars will travel to Roanoke to take on Patrick Henry.
