The Pulaski County High School winter sports teams put in a lot of hard work to make their recent seasons successful on the courts and mats, but Wednesday the school was recognized for another reason as the Virginia High School League released their Winter Sportsmanship Honor Roll.
Pulaski County High School was one of 231 schools recognized for having no players or coaches ejected or programs placed on a warning status.
“We are extremely proud of all the players, coaches, administrators, and fans who worked very hard to make this happen,” said VHSL Executive Director Dr. John W. “Billy” Haun, Ed.D. “Each school and community should be proud to be on this honor roll. We feel it’s the VHSL’s highest honor. Sportsmanship reflects positively on the individuals, schools, and communities.”
Other area teams included on the list are Blacks burg, Bland County, Cave Spring, Christiansburg, Eastern Montgomery, Floyd County, Fort Chiswell, George Wythe, Giles, Hidden Valley, Lord Botetourt, Narrows, Patrick Henry, and William Fleming.
“VHSL activities are an extension of the classroom, and teaching sportsmanship is essential to the education process. In addition, sportsmanship is one of the greatest skills we can instill in our student-athletes,” continued Dr. Haun. “Let’s celebrate this winter’s VHSL Sportsmanship Honor Roll. And say thank you to the student-athletes, school staff, and community members of these schools recognized during the winter season and challenge all our member schools to be on the spring honor roll.”
