Four Pulaski County spring sports athletes were recognized Tuesday with the release of the Class 4, Region D All-Region team.


Junior Laken Greever was the only Lady Cougar softball player named. Greever was selected as an honorable mention at pitcher.  Greever pitched 126.1 innings this season, giving up 157 hits, 111 runs (52 earned), and 30 walks while striking out 139 batters. Her season ERA was 2.88. She also contributed at the plate, earning nine hits, three RBI, five runs, and eight walks.


Senior Emily Gillespie of Louisa County was selected at the Player of the Year. Coach Susan Sharpe of Louisa County was selected as the Coach of the Year.


The Cougar baseball team saw three names listed on the All-Region team. Senior Cole Albert was selected as a second team third baseman. Senior Nick Golden was selected as a second team outfielder. Junior Gabriel Huff was selected as a second team at-large player.


Albert ended the season with a batting average of .429 and an on-base percentage of .538. He recorded 27 hits, 16 RBI, 22 runs, and 11 walks. In the field, he recorded 14 put-outs with no errors, earning a fielding percentage of .967. He also pitched 3.2 innings, giving up three hits, three runs (none earned), and two walks while striking out two batters.


Golden ended the season with a batting average of .362 and an on-base percentage of .423. He recorded 25 hits, 21 RBI, 16 runs, and seven walks. In the field, he had 13 put-outs to earn a fielding percentage of .806. He also pitched 41 innings, giving up 54 hits, 46 runs (30 earned), and 24 walks while striking out 61 batters to earn an ERA of 5.122.


Huff finished his junior year with a batting average of .429 and an on-base percentage of .577. He earned 24 hits, 11 RBI, 25 runs, and 21 walks. In the field he recorded 18 putouts to earn a fielding percentage of .878. He also pitched 18 innings, giving up 24 hits, 20 runs (10 earned), and 22 walks while striking out seven batters.


The only other area team with a player listed was Blacksburg, with sophomore Brice Abbot listed as a first team designated hitter and senior Spencer Campbell named a second team first baseman. Senior Christian Harris of Amherst County was named Player of the Year. Coach John Apperson was selected as the Coach of the Year.
