Two Pulaski County High School cross country runners were in competition Saturday at Green Hill Park in Salem for the Class 3A State Championship meet. At the end of the day, both had finished in the top 20 out of over 100 runners.

Senior Bazil Mathes of Monticello High School took top honors with his time of 14:51.90. The next closest runner, senior Rives Boltwood of Abingdon High School, finished over 20 seconds later at 15:12.20.

Sophomore Cole Boone finished in sixth-place with his time of 15:39.89, which was good enough to also break the current school record that he already held.

Senior Garrett Kinder took 17th place overall with his time of 16:13.00. His time missed being in the top 14 by less than three seconds and missed the top 10 by just over 10 seconds.

“I’m very proud of Garrett and Cole, they work as a unit and push each other every meet and every practice,” Coach Hannah Alexander said. “They are both great leaders for our program and we are excited to see what they and the rest of our athletes can do this indoor season”
