The Pulaski County indoor track and field teams traveled to Lynchburg Saturday for a tough day of work at two separate events. Athletes from the high school and middle school were in action at both the Bulldog Invitational at Liberty University and the Heritage Middle School and Varsity Invitational at Heritage High School. Athletes were able to turn in performances that topped their own personal records and one athlete broke two of his own previous school records.
At Heritage High School, high school and middle school athletes were in action.
For the Lady Cougars, there were several standouts. Cheyenne McDougal took first place in her heats for the 55-meter (8.94) and 300-meter (56.01). Both of those were new PR’s for McDougal.
Baleigh Hatmater also set new PRs with her first place finished in her heats for the 55-meter (9.28) and 300-meter (58.51.
Chloe Duncan finished her 300-meter heat in second (56.91) and the 1,600-meter in 8th (7:24.90). Both of those times were new PRs.
Addison Dean finished her heat of the 55-meter in third at 9.49. She turned in a new PR in the 300-meter with her 4th place heat finish of 1:01.11.
Jacey Hendrix finished her heat of the 55-meter in 3rd (9.32) and her 300-meter in 4th (58.04).
Dani Carroll finished 4th in her heats of the 300-meter (53.00) and 500-meter (1:36.85).
Kahlan Dishon took 3rd place overall in the shot put with her throw of 28’ 11”.
There were also positive results for the Cougars at Heritage.
Beckham Ingram took 1st place in his heat of the 55-meter with a PR time of 7.68. He also finished 2nd in the 300-meter (47.18) and set a new PR long jump at 17’ 7”, finishing 3rd.
Brock Schneider took 3rd in his heat of the 55-meter with a time of 7.15. He also took 2nd in the 300-meter at 42.03.
Maddox Thompson was 3rd in his heat of the 55-meter at 7.79, a new PR. He also took 4th in the 300-meter at 46.70.
Roshawn Hill was 5th in his heat of the 55-meter (7.96) and 4th in the 300-meter (51.91).
Gaige Barton took 2nd in his heat of the 500-meter, with a new PR time of 1:26.94.
Milan Patel finished his heat of the 1,000-meter race in 3rd with a new PR time of 3:20.50.
Josh Sechrist finished 4th in the 1,000-meter race at 3:21.56.
Landon Clark finished the 1,600-meter race in 7th with a time of 5:44.31.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Milan Patel, Landon Clark, Gaige Barton, and Josh Sechrist finished 2nd with their time of 4:37.80.
In the shotput, Cougar athletes competed in several flights. Aiden Moore finished 2nd overall in the event with his throw of 45’ .5”. That throw qualifies Moore for the State Meet.
Anius Slaughter finished 6th overall with a throw of 38’ 2.5”. Blake Ratcliffe was 7th with a throw of 37’ 3”.
Chris Hayden finished 1st in his flight with a throw of 34’ 4”, a new PR. Rohan Kaul took 1st in his flight with a PR throw of 29’ 9”. Collin Maybry took 9th in his flight with a new PR of 24’3”. James Kiser took 10th with a new PR of 24’3”. Lucas Dakake finished 11th with a new PR of 24’2”.
In the middle school competition, the Cougars had two athletes stand out.
Aiden Barrett took 1st in the 1,000-meter race with a time of 3:34.27. He also took 2nd in the 1,600-meter race at 5:59.80.
Collin Wright finished 3rd in the shotput with a throw of 27’ 11.5”.
Meanwhile, other members of the varsity squad were busy competing in the Bulldog Invitational at Liberty University. Several of our Lady Cougar athletes were in action. This was a huge event featuring schools from across the Commonwealth and beyond.
Nadia Jackson finished 3rd in the long jump with a 15’6” effort. She also finished 9th in the high jump (4’6”) for a new PR. She rounded that out by taking 38th in the 300-meter with another PR (44.05) and 66th in the 55-meter (7.85).
Victoria Hale finished 16th in the high jump for a new PR of 4’4”. She also took 21st in the long jump (14’ .25”) and 34th in the triple jump with a new PR of 31’ 1”. She added a 115th place finish in the 55-meter race at 7.85.
Olivia King took 60th in the 55-hurdles (10.85) and 218th in the 55-meter (8.44). Both were new PRs.
Sara Ritter finished 184th in the 55-meter at 8.34. She also finished 201st in the 300-meter at 49.76, a new PR for her.
The 4x200-meter team of Hale, Jackson, King, and Ritter finished 41st with a time of 1:58.26.
For the Cougars, there were even more impressive results.
Cole Boone continued making his mark in the PCHS record books by breaking two indoor records that he already currently owned. He finished 2nd overall in the 500-meter race with a time of 1:05.07. He also took 2nd in the 1,600-meter race with a time of 4:15.85. Both are new PRs and school records.
As a sophomore, Boone finished second in the 500-meter race to senior Josiah Wrice of Butler High School of Matthews, North Carolina, by .33 of a second. In the 1,600-meter race, he finished second to senior Bazil Mathes of Monticello High School by .38 of a second. Both are returning State Champions in cross country and track that compete nationally. Mathes will be running for UVA next season.
Kaleb Sartin took 3rd in the long jump with his new PR of 19’ 6.25”. He also set a new PR in the 55-meter race with his time of 7.03, good enough for 135th overall.
Bryant Nottingham finished 9th in the long jump with an 18’8” effort. He also took 26th in the triple jump (37’ 10”) and 100th in the 300-meter (38.26).
Joel Burchett III finished 20th in the triple jump at 39’10”. He also finished 21st in the long jump (17’ 9.25”) and 113th in the 55-meter (6.97).
Tanner Linkous finished 81st in the 1,600-meter race with a new PR of 4:49.93. Silas Sweet set a new PR in the 500-meter with his 85th place time of 1:13.48. Marcus Reed finished 133rd in the 300-meter at 39.06.
The 4x200-meter relay team of Nottingham, Burchett, Sartin, and Reed finished 37th with a time of 1:37.27.
The varsity Cougars and Lady Cougars will be back in action Saturday, February 3, at Roanoke College beginning at 9 a.m. The Class 3, Region D Tournament is set for Saturday, February 17, also at Roanoke College.
