The Lady Cougar JV and varsity volleyball teams hosted the Floyd County Buffalos Monday, with the varsity squad recognizing the seniors before their matchup.

The night started with the junior varsity squad earning a win in two sets. The final scores of the two sets were 25-9 and 25-9. The second set began with the Lady Cougars jumping out to a 9-0 start before Floyd County scored their first point.

Kahlan Dishon had four kills and three digs. Makenna Yates added 14 digs in the win. With this win, the JV Lady Cougars move to 3-13 on the season.

“This was a good win for the JV ladies after struggling most of the season,” Lady Cougar Head Coach Ted Prol said. “This will give them some momentum to build on heading into the final games of the regular season.”

Before the start of the varsity contest, the three senior members of the Lady Cougars and their families were recognized for their years of hard work and dedication to the program. Each senior was also presented a Cougar Pride Coin. The three seniors, seen in the photo above, are Savannah Minnick, Elizabeth Stike, and Lacey Armes.

The varsity Lady Cougars fell in three sets to Floyd County. Set scores were 21-25, 17-25, and 23-25. Hannah Keefer had seven kills, 12 digs and an ace in the contest. Lacey Armes added five kills and nine digs.

“It was great to have a very competitive match against Floyd County,” Coach Prol said. “The ladies worked hard to try and win this match. In the end, Floyd County played the last few points better than we did and that was the difference.”

Thursday, the Lady Cougars hosted Patrick Henry.

The JV squad started the night, falling in three sets by the scores of 15-25, 25-17, and 6-15. Caroline Bishop had three kilss and two blocks. Makenna Yates added 13 digs in the loss.

In the varsity matchup, the Lady Cougars fell in three sets by the scores of 11-25, 19-25, and 12-25.

Hannah Keefer had five kills and 12 digs. Lacey Armes added four kills, two aces, and seven digs. Elaina Aust chipped in with five assists.

With the losses, the JV squad moves to 3-14 on the season and the varsity squad falls to 2-15.

The Lady Cougar teams are scheduled to face Hidden Valley on the road Tuesday, Oct. 11. A home match against Blacksburg, a road trip to Cave Spring, and a road trip to Salem will finish out the regular season. JV action each night begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity contests at 7 p.m.
