With their win over Pulaski County Friday night, the Salem Spartans move into the top spot in the latest Virginia High School League (VHSL) power ratings. The Spartans boast a record of 6-1 and a rating of 25.57. Last week the Spartans were in second place behind Orange County.

EC Glass, who was in fifth place last week, are now listed in second place with a record of 5-1 and a 25.16 rating. Louisa County, who was third last week, stays in that position with a 7-0 record and 25.14 rating. Orange County drops from first place last week to fourth place this week after a lopsided 49-7 loss to Louisa County. Orange has a record of 4-1 and a 23.40 rating. Amherst County fell to fifth after a loss to EC Glass, putting their record at 5-1 and a 22.50 rating.


Jefferson Forest (3-3, 21.16) remains in sixth place after a 42-0 loss to Liberty Christian Academy. Halifax County (3-3, 19.83) lost to Magna Vista 34-14, but remain in seventh place. Western Albemarle (3-3, 19.83), moves into eighth place after a 27-6 loss to Albemarle.


Pulaski County now sits in ninth place with a 3-3 record and 19.66 rating. The Cougars face Blacksburg at home this week for homecoming, then travel to Graham Thursday, Oct. 20. Pulaski County will host Patrick Henry Friday, Oct. 28. The final game of the regular season will find the Cougars on the road at Christiansburg High School Friday, Nov. 4.


Mecklenburg County is 10th at 1-5 and 17.33. GW Danville won 34-6 last week over Chatham, but remain in 11th place at 1-4 and 16.80. Blacksburg is in 12th place at 0-6 and 14.83.
