Four teams have locked in their spot in the upcoming Class 4, Region D football playoffs. Three of those teams have secured home field in the opening round. Seven teams are still in the hunt and one team is out in the latest VHSL Power Ratings.
EC Glass holds onto first place with their 8-1 record and 29.22 rating. Louisa County is second at 9-0 and 28.66. Salem is third at 8-1 and 28.11. Those three teams have secured their home field for the opening round of the playoffs.
Orange County is fourth at 7-2 and 24.44. They have secured their spot in the playoffs, but not home field advantage as of this week.
Amherst County is fifth at 6-3 and 23.44. Western Albemarle is sixth at 5-4 and 22.33. Jefferson Forest is seventh at 3-6 and 21.44. Halifax County is eighth at 4-5 and 21.22.
The Cougars hold onto the ninth place they were in last week and are now 4-5 with a 21.11 rating. Pulaski County will travel to Christiansburg this week. A win would likely land them in eighth place. Halifax County is playing winless Tunstall. The Cougars are playing 6-3 Christiansburg. A win for the Cougars would mean more rider points than a win for Halifax over Tunstall. A loss to the Blue Demons would most likely mean the season is over.
GW Danville is in 10th place at 3-6 and 20.22. The Eagles will not make the playoffs unless something crazy happens, and they won’t get a 10th game after an early season cancelation. They lost a tough one, 26-27, to Magna Vista this week in overtime. Had they won that game, it could have caused some concern if they had also gotten a 10th game and won that.
Mecklenburg County is not officially out of the race, but at 2-7 and 19.00, the number of things that would need to happen for them to make the playoffs is far too high. Blacksburg is 12th and at 0-9 and 16.33 they have been mathematically eliminated.
