Coming off a State Championship in the men’s 4A outdoor season in the spring and with several solid performances during the cross country season, the Pulaski County indoor track and field team is hungry for more success as they begin their first season under new Head Coach Mark Carper.

Last weekend, the Cougars and Lady Cougars traveled to Liberty University for the 2023 Liberty High School Opener. Teams from 75 high schools from around the Commonwealth came to compete in the event.

For the Cougars and Lady Cougars, several individuals turned in impressive performances.

For the girls, the top performance of the day was an eighth-place finish in the long jump by Francisca Salamanca with her 15’ 8.25” effort. She also earned 24th place in the triple jump, 86th in the 55-meter dash, and 128th in the 300-meter race.

Kahlan Dishon took 13th in the shot put with a throw of 27’ 11.5”. Shai-Anne Lyman took 23rd in the long jump with a 12’ 4.75” leap, 33rd in the triple jump, and 68th in the 55-meter. Margie Lyman finished 26th in the triple jump at 28’ 2.75”, 29th in the long jump, 106th in the 55-meter, and 158th in the 300-meter. Abrionna Hill took 144th in the 55-meter and 161st in the 300-meter.

For the Cougar men, the results were much more impressive.

Diego Turner turned in a first-place performance in the shot put with a throw of 51’ 7”. Garrett Kinder finished second in the 1,000-meter race at 2:43.78. Colle Boone finished third in the 1,000-meter at 2:44.12.

Quemaar Porter took fourth in the long jump at 20’ 1”. He also finished 10th in the 55-meter race, 15th in the triple jump, and 31st in the 300-meter race.

Davis Neel took 10th in the 55-meter hurdles with an 8.49 finish. He also took 61st in the 55-meter race and 73rd in the 300-meter.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Kinder, Cole Boone, Silas Sweet, and Jacob Hoover took 10th place with a time of 3:48.61.

Kiontre Hayden finished 1th in the shot put with a throw of 39’ 5.25”. Blake Ratcliffe finished 18th in the shot put with a throw of 37’ 4.5”.

Trey Landreth was 19th in the long jump, 21st in the triple jump, 105th in the 55-meter race, and 120th in the 300-meter.

Glennel Lyman was 23rd in the triple jump, 40th in the long jump, 123rd in the 55-meter, and 140th in the 300-meter.

Sean Wines was 26th in the shot put. Carter Simmers finished 29th in the 1,600-meter race. Aiden Moore finished 30th in the shot put. Trevor Wright was 51st in the shot put. Duncan Umberger was 55th in the shot. Silas Sweet was 38th in the 55-meter race and 97th in the 300-meter dash. Jacob Hoover was 53rd in the 1,000-meter. Dylan Nester was 57th in the shot. Tanner Linkous took 60th in the 1,600-meter race.

The Cougars and Lady Cougars were scheduled to be back in action Saturday, Dec. 10, back at Liberty University.
