Summer 2024 EBT Updates:
Virginia SUN Bucks will provide families with eligible school-aged children a grocery benefit of $120 per eligible child on an existing EBT card or a new Virginia SUN Bucks EBT card beginning in late August.
School-aged children receiving SNAP, TANF, or certain income-eligible Medicaid will automatically be enrolled in Virginia SUN Bucks without applying.
Households with eligible children who attended an NSLP school but who do not have established eligibility must submit a Virginia SUN Backs application to VDSS to be eligible, if their income qualifies.
The fillable PDF application will be available to households on the SUN Bucks website beginning July 1. It must be printed and mailed to VDSS in Richmond.
Important Notes:
All households who must apply will be required to submit the student’s unique local student ID number on the Virginia SUN Bucks application. This information can be found in the parent portal.
Please immediately post and share with households in your area where they can find their student’s local ID number (not the student testing ID)
Sharing this information with households – especially for CEP schools – will help reduce phone calls and contacts to schools.
For complete information, and for all household and public inquiries, please visit the VDSS website at
A VDSS call center to support household questions and telephonic SUN Bucks applications will open later in July (date TBD by VDSS).
