Pulaski County High School junior Keslyn Secrist has been named to the 2022 Virginia High School League Class 4 All-State first team.
Secrist was instrumental in helping the Lady Cougar basketball team win the River Ridge District Regular Season and Tournament Championships, along with the Region 4D Championship for a third straight season. She was named as the River Ridge District and Region 4D Player of the Year.
Secrist finished the 2021-22 season with a team-high 476 points. She hit 34 of 74 three-point attempts (45.9%) and 58 of 75 free throw attempts (77.3%). She also grabbed a team-high 225 rebounds (82 offensive, 143 defensive), and accounted for 67 assists, 72 steals, and a team-high 28 blocked shots during the season.
The Lady Cougars finished the season with a record of 24-4. One of their losses came to Carroll County, who recently won the 3A State Championship. Their final loss was an overtime heartbreaker to Millbrook High School on the road in the state semi-finals. Millbrook lost the state championship to King’s Fork in Richmond.
No other Pulaski County players were selected to the All-State team. King’s Fork placed three players on the team. Yasmine Brown was selected as first team and as the Player of the Year. Niyah Gaston and Cyriah Lee-Griffin were named to the second unit. King’s Fork Head Coach Maurice Fofano was selected as the Coach of the Year.
Millbook saw Avery O’Roke and Kennidi Rooks listed on the first unit. Powhatan senior Faith Herderson was named to the first team. Smithfield senior Jayla Hearp was also listed on the first unit. Louisa County saw Sylvie Jackson on the first team and Olivia McGhee on the second. Broad Run placed Yvonne Lee on the first unit. Manor High School junior AJ Richardson was on the second team. Patrick Henry-Ashland senior Logan Nuckols was also on the second unit. Hampton junior Kennedy Harris, Eastern View senior Trinity Washington, and EC Glass senior Jordyn Wright-Goode rounded out the second unit.
