Pulaski County Public Schools and Pulaski County Middle School are pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Hunter Thomas as the new Head Coach for the PCMS Cougar football team. Mr. Thomas will also serve as a Physical Education teacher at PCMS.
Hunter Thomas is a Pulaski County High School graduate from the Class of 2017. During his time at PCHS, Mr. Thomas set and broke the records for most yards rushing in a season – regular season only (1,865 yards in 2016) and most yards in a career (4,464 yards from 2014-2016). He also holds the current record for most rushing yards in a game (305 yards, 19 carries, 2016 vs. Franklin County). He is also currently second in career all-purpose scoring with 382 points.
“We’re very excited to have Hunter Thomas working as a teacher and coach for Pulaski County Public Schools,” Dr. Kevin Siers, Superintendent of Pulaski County Public Schools said. “He represented us well a few years ago as an outstanding student-athlete and there is no doubt that he will be a great mentor and role model for a new generation of Pulaski County students.”
Thomas is a graduate of Concord University, where he was a standout member of the Mountain Lion track and field program.
“I’m very thankful for this opportunity to come back home and be a part of the Cougar Football program,” Thomas said. “It has always been a dream of mine to coach in the county I was raised in, and I will not take it for granted. I look forward to contributing to the future success of this program. Go Cougars!”
An interest meeting will be scheduled in the immediate future to bring players and parents up to date on the expectations and schedule for the summer leading into the season. All who wish to participate in weightlifting, practices, drills, or any other football activities must have a VHSL Physical on file with the school before participating.
