Parents,
The process of checking Critzer Elementary for a possible gas leak might extend into the afternoon so we will be dismissing at 10:30 a.m. Parent pickup will be available in the outer half of the parking lot and buses will pick up on the cafeteria side of the school. We apologize for the inconvenience this might cause.

Pulaski County Public Schools was recently the recipient of a generous donation of school supplies from representatives of the Community Health Center of the New River Valley. The donation of pens, pencils, notebooks, crayons, and many other items was made possible by donations from employees of the center. Seen here with the donated supplies are (from left) Gabby Stowers, Lead Oral Health Advocate for Community Health Clinic of the New River Valley, Dr. Kevin Siers, Superintendent of Pulaski County Public Schools, and Erika Slagel-Perry, School Program Manager for the Community Health Center of the New River Valley.

Snowville elementary School is the center of the Snowville community in many ways. Community events are held there, along with recreation sports and many other events. During the summer break, Snowville bookkeeper Nancy Jarrells helped add a little “Husky Pride” in her school by painting these murals. This is just further proof that not only is Pulaski County Pride and Husky Pride strong in Snowville, but the school is also staffed by talented individuals who are willing to give of their time to make things better for our students. Great job Mrs. Jarrells!

With Pulaski County students back in the classrooms, we want to remind everyone to please use caution during bus hours in the morning and afternoon. In accordance with Virginia law, you must stop for school buses with flashing red lights and an extended stop sign when you approach from any direction on a highway, private road or school driveway. Drivers must stop and remain stopped until all persons are clear and the bus moves again. If you on a road with a median or barrier dividing the road, you do not have to stop if the bus is on the other side of the barrier or median, but still be aware of unexpected actions by anyone who may exit the bus and attempt to cross. Also, be aware of reduced speed limit zones near schools during the hours the buses are arriving and exiting the school areas. Help us keep our students safe as they head to school and return home each day.

Congratulations to the PCPS Finance Department and all of the bookkeepers who work in our schools and at the School Board Office. They are responsible for performing the daily financial and accounting work at their school or department and they have an extremely important role in managing and allocating resources to our division and school leadership, teachers, and staff.
In particular, the FY 2021 School Board audit had no audit findings and only one audit comment that was unrelated to the performance of their finance/bookkeeping duties.
In addition, the draft copy of the FY 2022 School Activity Funds audit has been provided for management review and is one of the best in many years, including 3 of our 7 schools receiving a perfect audit with no audit comments.
We are appreciative of these hard-working employees and wish to recognize them for their contributions to Pulaski County Public Schools.
