Delegate Marie March, who represents Virginia’s 7th District in the House of Delegates, visited Pulaski County High School Thursday afternoon for a tour of the school and the CTE/STEM center located on campus. After helping congratulate two students who recently completed all graduation requirements early, Mrs. March was able to speak with three of the Most Valuable Cougar candidates about their plans for the future. She then moved on to tour the CTE/STEM program and was able to speak with several students and staff members about their involvement with the programs. Pulaski County students may now apply for virtual instruction for the 2022-23 school year. Virtual learning for next year will be different from the prior two school years. Eligibility for virtual school will be more restrictive. Students who have documented medical conditions or who require virtual for other documented reasons are eligible to apply for a very limited number of virtual spots. There will be a strict application deadline of May 20, 2022. All applications must be completed online at the PCPS website. A link to the application is available on the PCPS home page under the "News" heading.

The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office is asking for assistance in locating Kasey Puckett, a 16-year-old female, was last seen at her residence in Pulaski County at approximately 8:00 a.m. on 4-18-22. She is 5’6 and approximately 95 pounds, has blond hair and blue eyes. She could possibly be in a 2016 silver Chrysler Town and Country minivan bearing Virginia license plate VUF5785. If you see her, please contact Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office at (540)980-7800, or call 911.

Pulaski County Public Schools and Pulaski County High School are pleased to announce our Senior of the Month for April, Emma Gene Clevinger. Emma is the daughter of Larry and Angela Clevinger of Pulaski. Emma is described as being a constant contributor in class who shows a positive attitude in all that is asked of her. She is friendly in nature and the model of dependability. Her gentle kindness is felt by all who meet her and she has a wonderful way of making those around her feel at ease. Emma is currently vice president of the Gay-Straight Alliance as well as a member of the Red Cross, National Honor Society, International Thespian Society and Pulaski County Reads. Most of the time you can find Emma working diligently on the PCHS Yearbook staff, where she is currently senior editor. Upon graduation, Emma plans to attend Virginia Tech to study public health which will lead her to her goal of becoming an epidemiologist. In her free time, Emma enjoys reading and hanging out with friends.

Pulaski County Public Schools and Riverlawn Elementary School are proud to honor Melissa Hunt as Teacher of the Month. Melissa teaches first grade at Riverlawn Elementary School. She keeps her students engaged and provides them with exciting and unique experiences. Mrs. Hunt is dedicated, passionate, and highly motivated. It is clear to anyone who enters her room that she loves and respects all her students. Mrs. Hunt always takes the time to listen to students and coworkers to best understand any needs they may have. She has been teaching for a total of 28 years with 22 years in Pulaski County Schools. She graduated from West Virginia University. When Mrs. Hunt isn’t teaching, she loves spending time with her husband Mike, son Tyler, daughter-in-law Ashley, and daughter Mackenzie. Both of her children are Pulaski County High School graduates. Mrs. Hunt also enjoys boating, crafting, reading and traveling.

Pulaski County Public School and Riverlawn Elementary School are proud to honor Christopher McVey as Employee of the Month. Christopher brings joy to everyone he interacts with at Riverlawn. He happily goes above and beyond to make sure the needs of students and staff are met. He takes his job seriously and is always willing to help in any way he can. Mr. McVey began working at Riverlawn in August as a custodian. Prior to working at Riverlawn, he was a member in a band. Mr. McVey hasn’t given up his music profession, he currently records music in his home. This summer he will have his first novel released.

Members of the Pulaski County High School Lady Cougar basketball team were recognized for their accomplishments at the Tuesday, April 12, meeting of the Pulaski County School Board. The team has made it to the VHSL State Playoffs each of the past four seasons, earned the River Ridge District championship the past two seasons, were Region 4 Champions the past three seasons, and were 4A State runners-up two of those seasons. This season they finished with a record of 24-4. Recognized Tuesday were Ally Fleenor, Courtney Cregger, Erin Russell, Hailey Capps, Hannah Keefer, Jaden Lawson, Keslyn Secrist, Morgan Vest, Taryn Blankenship, Tori Vest, Paige Huff, Andi Ratcliff, Caroline Bishop, and Reese Nolan. The Lady Cougars are coached by Head Coach Scott Ratcliff and assistant coaches Shawn Lawson, Rick Secrist and Jennifer Ratcliff.

Pulaski County Public Schools would like to recognize James Johnson and Bruce Keller for being selected to the All-Virginia Choir. The Virginia Choral Directors Association sponsors All-Virginia Chorus each year. There are 16 districts in the Commonwealth of Virginia and each sends a total of 24 delegates to All-State; 16 students from each district participate in the Mixed Chorus while eight delegates from each district participate in the Treble Chorus. All students who audition for All-Virginia must first be selected to participate in All-District Chorus. After this, they are eligible to audition for All-Virginia. Students must place first or second in their voice part to be selected as an All-state member. James Johnson is a PCHS junior who placed first in the Tenor 1 division. Bruce Keller is a PCHS junior who placed second in the Bass 2 division. Both students will travel to Richmond on April 21-23 to represent Pulaski County High School and District 7 as members of the 2022 All-Virginia Chorus. They are members of the Mixed Chorus which will be under the direction of Dr. Paul Head from the University of Delaware.

Pulaski County Public School and Riverlawn Elementary would like to recognize Victoria Gonzalez as their student of the month. She led the Pulaski County School Board in the Pledge of Allegiance at the Tuesday, April 12 meeting. Victoria is a fourth-grade student. Her parents are Michael and Erika Gonzalez. Victoria is a smart, enthusiastic student who always goes out of her way to help and include others. She is a natural leader who has ambition and motivation to strive for excellence. Victoria’s favorite subject is Virginia Studies because she likes history. She enjoys nonfiction books over fiction books because she likes to learn about important people and events from the past. Victoria believes fiction books are pointless. In Victoria’s spare time she likes to play guitar. Her grandfather and uncle give her lessons over Zoom. When she grows up, Victoria wants to be a lawyer with the goal of eventually becoming a judge.
